Microsoft Word is a word processor. Word processing: the composition, editing, formatting and sometimes printing of any sort of written material.

Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet application program for organization and analysis of data in tabular form.

Microsoft PowerPoint is a slide show presentation program used to display information in the form of a slide show. Powerpoint files are intended to be displayed or projected on screen and are not ideal quality for printing in most cases.

Microsoft Publisher is an entry-level desktop publishing application from Microsoft, differing from Microsoft Word in that the emphasis is placed on page layout and design rather than text composition and proofing.

Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics/photo editing program that enables a person to manipulate visual images on a computer. It is not meant to be used for page layout.

Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor computer program that allows users to compose and edit vector graphic images interactively on a computer and save them in one of many popular vector graphics formats, such as EPS.

Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing software application produced by Adobe Systems. It can be used to create works such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers and books. InDesign can also publish content suitable for tablet devices in conjunction with Adobe Digital Publishing Suite. Graphic designers and production artists are the principal users, creating and laying out periodical publications, posters, and print media.
